Performer

 

Bassist and Composer Matt Gold earned a degree in music composition from The Cleveland Institute of Music where he studied with Dr. Donald Erb. While studying in Cleveland Matt could often be heard in performance on Bass in Cleveland jazz clubs such as Club Isabella and The Boarding House, in concert venues such as the Cain Park Summer Jazz Series or the Tri-C Sundown Jazz Series with artists such as Ralph Jackson and Willie Smith or in theater orchestras such as Karamu House.

Matt maintains a busy performing and recording schedule and may be frequently heard in some of Chicago’s

finest venues as a jazz bassist, classical bassist or creative music improviser.

Composer/Arranger

 

As a composer of concert music, 2009 saw the premiere and subsequent performances of Matt’s Meditation on a Handel Aria, for solo cello. 2010 will see the completion of a work for chamber orchestra, Y No Sé Por Qué .

Educator

 

As an educator, Matt has taught music theory, aural skills, music appreciation as well as acoustic and electric bass from early childhood ages to adult. Matt has lectured on subjects such as Diana Ross Motives and Axis Theory, and The Who and Wagner, a music comparison.
